Our workshops are coordinated by Dr. Jason Sykes, Speech & Debate Director in Coppell ISD.
CDA began speech & debate workshops in 2018 and is independently owned & operated.
We are committed to providing quality instruction and competition opportunities in the DFW area and beyond.
Our coaches are committed to the growth of young debaters in Coppell and beyond, and their students have won championships at every level.
Are you a beginner, expert, or somewhere in between? Not to worry! We offer a variety of high-quality courses designed to prepare you for your next step. Students will be separated by skill level in order to maximize results.
Learners will have the opportunity to explore speech & debate events while preparing for mock competitions late in the week. Our goal is that students gain experience and confidence through practice.
In addition to Coppell Debate's 2 national championships and 6 state championships during the past 6 years, several students who attended this very camp session have attained some of the highest national awards available. In the past few years, alums have attended Harvard, Stanford, Emory, and others.
The value of speech and debate competition makes students better prepared as researchers, speakers, writers, and critical thinkers. Debaters perform better than their peers academically and on standardized tests. Since 2018, Coppell Debate graduates include more than 100 National Merit Finalists, 6 Coppell HS valedictorians, several others placing in the Top 5 of their class, and multiple student scholarship recipients.
We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Mrs. Glenda Ferguson.
Mrs. Ferguson was the long-time director of debate at Coppell and was instrumental to the creation and operation of Coppell Debate Academy. An NSDA, TFA, and Golden Key Society Hall of Fame member, Glenda was honored many times over, winning virtually every honor a coach can receive.
Students and previous assistants remember Glenda as a true force. Her genuine love of others and passion for supporting the programs she served will never be forgotten. We love and miss you, Ferg!
