Our workshops are coordinated by Dr. Jason Sykes, Speech & Debate Director at Coppell.
CDA is entering its 6th year of speech & debate workshops and is independently owned & operated.
We are committed to providing quality instruction and competition opportunities in the DFW area and beyond.
Our coaches are committed to the growth of young debaters in Coppell and beyond, and their students have won championships at every level.
Are you a beginner, expert, or somewhere in between? Not to worry! We offer a variety of high-quality courses designed to prepare you for your next step. Students will be separated by skill level in order to maximize results.
Learners will have the opportunity to explore speech & debate events while preparing for mock competitions late in the week. Our goal is that students gain experience and confidence through practice.
In addition to Coppell Debate's 4 state championships over the past 4 years, National Championship in 2021, and Tournament of Champions School Sweepstakes award in 2021, several students who attended this very camp session have attained some of the highest national awards available.
For example, Natasha Banga attended CDA in our first summer.
She won 6th Place at NSDA Nationals as a Junior
and was recently accepted to Stanford University!
The value of speech and debate competition makes students better prepared as researchers, speakers, writers, and critical thinkers. Debaters perform better than their peers academically and on standardized tests. In recent years, Coppell Debate graduates include dozens of National Merit Scholars (13 in 2021-22), Valedictorians and several others placing in the Top 5 of their class, and multiple students scholarship recipients.
We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Mrs. Glenda Ferguson.
Mrs. Ferguson was the long-time director of debate at Coppell and was instrumental to the creation and operation of Coppell Debate Academy. Through her career, she was honored many times over, winning virtually every honor a coach can receive.
Students and previous assistants remember Glenda as a true force. Her genuine love of others and passion for supporting the programs she served will never be forgotten.
